It is good that these new systems help referees to be
fairer and more accurate. However, some fans are not
satisfied with the use of instant replays. One reason is
that the flow of play is interrupted. People have to wait
30 for a decision, and their excitement turns to frustration.
If decisions take too long, enthusiasm for a game may
cool down. Also, if referees depend too much on instant
replays, they may lose their concentration during the
game. The fans and players may stop respecting them.
6 It is true that instant replay systems have increased
the accuracy of referees' decisions, but no one knows
whether it has increased the joy and excitement of the
game.
