When we care for Muslim women there are four things to be careful of.
First, we should check with Muslim women what they can't eat and should prepare halal food
depending on the situation. Muslim women don't consume pork and alcohol, it's best to check
and not give them such things. Some capsules contain gelatin which is made of pork, so we
should avoid using them. Just in case, it seems wise to avoid using sweet mirin and cooking
wine.
Secondly, Muslim women think the left hand is dirty, so when we serve food it's best, we use
our right hand.
Thirdly, we should be mindful when exposing their skin, because of their religious beliefs. We
need to be careful when exposing their skin and ask permission. Primarily, women nurses
should be used because of their religious beliefs.
Finally, we should consider their culture. It's possible that Muslim women will reject medicine
and food during the fasting months. We should do our best to persuade them to take the
medication. Muslims ritually pray five timesa day. If possible, it's best not to bother them
when they pray.
All in all, we will try to provide nursing care that meets the needs of the patient as much as
possible. Thank you for listening.
