December 25 is *Christmas Day. In Japan, shops hold Christmas sales and many
people enjoy shopping on that day. But in the U.K., Christmas is a day for family.
Almost every shop *is closed on Christmas Day, and people usually stay home and
enjoy dinner with their families. Every year they buy a big Christmas tree and put
presents under it. People *exchange presents, so children also give their family
presents. In the U.K., there is a special day after Christmas Day. People call it Boxing
Day. On that day, shops have big sales and many people go out and enjoy shopping.
I had another interesting holiday, *Hanukkah, with my host family. Hanukkah is one
of the most popular *Jewish *festivals. It *lasts for eight days. Each night people *light
one candle and finish lighting them on the eighth night. Some parents keep giving
their children presents for eight days, so they can get eight presents!
