New research suggests that cutting daily sitting time to less than three hours might extend your life by two years. W Humans were designed to move. But modern lifestyles and office jobs rarely prom us to roam around. Quite the opposite, says Peter Katzmarzyk, an epidemiologist at the University of Louisiana. "Sitting is ubiquitous in our lives today. You know, we sit while we're eating, we sit in the car, we sit while we watch TV. And many of us sit for many hours at work. So on average, Americans report they sit between four and a half to five hours a day," Katzma said. team to And, as he says, those chair-centered days matter to our health, just like exercise "We can't throw away physical activity. It's extremely important. We have 60 years of research showing us that. But sedentary behavior is also important. . . . If you exercis for 30 minutes a day. What goes on in the other 23 and a half hours a day is also very important," Katzmarzyk said. Ka occupa and do we sp Katzmarzyk and his colleagues are part of a new generation of researchers trying discover how sitting all day affects our lifespans. "This is a relatively new area of study. . . . Studies that have assessed the relations between sitting and mortality or television viewing and mortality are very rare. 4G - 14:15 น. ← Screenshot_20230... Reading-Comprehen... Q Volcanoes Read the passage below and answer the questions on the next page. 4G 54 Volcanoes are geological formations that are created due to the movement of magma and gas from the Earth's mantle and core to its surface. The Earth's crust is made up of several large tectonic plates that are in constant motion, and when these plates collide, magma is forced to the surface, resulting in volcanic eruptions. Games4esl Volcanoes can be found all over the world and are often located in areas where tectonic plates converge, such as the Pacific Ring of Fire. Volcanoes can be classified into three main types: shield volcanoes, stratovolcanoes, and cinder cone volcanoes. Shield volcanoes are formed by repeated eruptions of fluid lava flows, which are thin and runny due to low viscosity. As the lava spreads out, it forms a wide, gently sloping mountain. Stratovolcanoes are steep, cone-shaped mountains that are formed by layers of ash, lava, and other volcanic debris. They are typically the result of explosive eruptions. Cinder cone volcanoes are small, steep-sided cones that are formed from a single vent and have a circular crater at the top. They are usually created by explosive eruptions that produce a lot of ash and cinders. |||| Volcanic eruptions can be very destructive and can cause damage to both the natural environment and human infrastructure. They can cause ash clouds that can travel for miles and disrupt air travel, as well as pyroclastic flows, which are fast-moving clouds of hot gas, ash, and rock that can be deadly. In addition to causing destruction, volcanic eruptions can also be beneficial, as they can create new land, enrich soil with minerals and nutrients, and provide sources of geothermal energy. 3 Scientists study volcanoes in order to better understand their behavior and predict when eruptions might occur. They use instruments such as seismometers, gas sensors, and satellite imagery to monitor the activity of volcanoes and track changes in their behavior. This information can be used to create early warning systems that can help protect people and communities from the effects of volcanic eruptions. www.Games4esl.com

And welcome to the Our Happy Planet Talk Show, We're here with Professor Julie Bright, a sientist and expert on climate change. Julie: Thanks, Garry. Garry: So, Julie, in your opinion, do we do enough to keep our planet healthy? Julie: Actualy, I think that the world is going to end in the next 100 years. Garry: I'm sorry. In 100 years? Oh dear.. thats terrible. Can you explain further? Julie: Its because we've already done too much damage to the planet, and now that darmage is permanent. In my opinion, we're past the point of trying to protect the planet. Now we should try to save ourselves. Garry: Surely there's something we can do. What's the cause of all this damage? Julie: Well, the cause is pollution, and its effect is climate change. It's destroying our planet, and it will continue to do So. Its to the point that we cannot stop it. Its causing the ice caps to melt. (A) Soon they will all disappear. This in turn will cause sea levels to rise. [B) Its predicted that sea levels will rise another 48 centimeters by the year 2050. This will flood many coastal cities. They will be lost forever beneath the water. Flooding isn't the only problem being caused by climate change either. Climate change is causing drought, famine, fires, and other disasters to happen more often all over the world. [C) The bottom line is: we're losing the fight against climate change. Garry: But, Professor, if we stop poluting the environment, can't we prevent these disasters that you are predicting? Julie: Hmm. Well, it couldn't hurt. But, in order for us to make a real difference, we'd have to stop polluting the planet now. Climate change is a problem for all people living now. It's not a problem for our kids or our kids" kids. comprehension Circle true or false. 8 1. Julie believes the damage done to the planet is permanent 2. Sea levels have risen 48 centimeters. 3. 4 Dick Summers: that was all the encouragement I needed. I finally got into the film business iท the 70s. Stanley Kubrick had amazed everybody with his beautiful film 2001: A Space Odyssey and I| found myself working on a similar film for a young guy called George Lucas. He kept talking about robots, or swords made out of light, and superfast spaceships, and I kept saying, "Sure, George, but how are we going to make it?" Well, in the end we found a way and Star Wars was a massive blockbuster. We made two more Star Wars films, and I had a great time working on the Indiana Jones movies, but then along came Jurassic Park in 1993 and that changed everything. Snesial Efecls SUPERVISOR A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away . people used to believe whatever they saw with their own eyes. But do you really believe a man can fly? Do you believe aliens are invading Earth or that an evil empire will destroy freedom across the บniverse? For the makers of films like Superman, Independence Day and Star Wars, their mission is to make you believe and that's when they come to someone like me. Over the years, I've travelled through time, breathed life back into dinosaurs and blown up entire planets. Today, I work at Industrial Light & Magic, but my interest in special effects goes back to my childho0od. I remember seeing the alien in The War Uf The Worlds zap some soldiers with a ray gun and I thought 1o myself, "| want to do that. My father had a home movie Camera and I filmed my brother pretending to be a soldier. Then filmed some fireworks exploding. My mum went crazZy When she saw it, but my dad thought it was really funny and Computer animation had been around for a long time, but now we Could make any kind of creature we wanted. Suddenly, it seemed like every film had to have CGI (computer generated imaging) and I think some people forgot that films still need imagination. I enjoy films like The Lord of the Rings trilogy because they've got drama and emotion as well as great Special effects, but my kids like computer animated films like Shrek. Sometimes I try to imagine what kind of films they'|| be watching when they're older, but then look back at how far we've already come. Who could have dreamed any of this Would really happen?
