Hello, everyone. I will talk about my friend Misaki. When we entered junior high
school, we decided to join the track and field team together because both of us liked
running. We practiced hard together every day. However, I *injured my leg during
spring vacation last year. I thought I couldn't join *competitions because I couldn't
practice for a long time. I was sad and lost *motivation to run.
I didn't want to "continue practicing. I told Misaki about it. She said, “We are not
practicing for only competitions. We are running because we like it. Do you know the
*Toyama Marathon? Junior high school students can't join it yet, but they can join the
*jogging section of it. It is four kilometers. I'm going to join it. Why don't you join it
with me? We still have six months to practice." I said, “I don't want to practice."
However, she continued talking. She said, "Usually we can't run on the Shinminato
Bridge, but the people who join the Toyama Marathon and the jogging section of it can
run there. Isn't it exciting?" I became interested and finally decided to join the jogging
section of the Toyama Marathon with Misaki. I started practicing again after I
*recovered. It was harder than before, but Misaki always *encouraged me.
On the day of the Toyama Marathon, many people joined the jogging section. I was
surprised because many old people were running too. I wanted to be like them. Of
course, I enjoyed running with Misaki, but there was only one sad thing. It was cloudy
that day, so we couldn't see Tateyama from the Shinminato Bridge. I hope we can see it
20 next time.
I remembered the joy of running through this experience. Winning competitions is
not the only goal of sports. Enjoying them is more important. I am happy to have a
friend who practices with me and encourages me when I have a hard time. I hope I can
run with Misaki in high school too and get stronger. In the future, I want to run 42.195
25 kilometers in the Toyama Marathon with Misaki.
Thank you for listening.

The ptarmigans are special natural monuments of Japan, and live only in cold places
like high mountains. You can't find them in their *natural habitat so often, but you can
see them on Tateyama if you have good luck. People often think the ptarmigans live
only on high mountains. However, some of them spend winter by the sea in countries
like Russia. Did you know that they change color each season? They become dark
brown in summer and white in winter. When the birds change color like that, it is hard
for other animals to find them.
