owl with Characters Larger tha In any book, cartoon or film we all love to see the heroes defeat the villains, save the world, win the girl and live happily ever after. But just between you and me, don't we feel a little bit sorry for the villains as well? Batman is the superhero protector of Gotham City. After witnessing the murder of his parents as a child, he swore to fight crime. He does not have any superhuman powers, but relies on his intelligence, athletic ability and scientific knowledge. He wears a costume that acts like armour. His cape can spread out like wings which can be used to glide down safely from heights. As a crime fighter, Batman faces several enemies. His biggest enemy is the Joker, a violent maniac with a clown-like appearance. The Joker, a master criminal, has chalk- white skin, green hair and a permanent grin stretched across his face. At one time he can be mischievous and funny, but at other times violent, brutal and cruel. He has no superpowers, instead he is intelligent and good at chemical engineering and weapon design, which he uses to create instruments of terror. One of the most powerful villains is Thanos. He is much larger than the average human, with powerful muscles, a broad face and purple skin. He often wears Life a protective suit of armour, and a glove that can harness power from infinity stones. Thanos plans to use this power to erase half of the human population. Due to this, he is seen as an enemy by many, notably Iron Man who teams up with other heroes, the Avengers, to try to stop him. Iron Man is identified by the armour he wears, which he largely made for himself. Though he has no superpowers, his armoured suit gives him strength, makes him fly, and shoots rays from the palms of his metal gloves. He also has a device on his chest that helps his damaged heart to beat well. Once a good fairy, Maleficent suffered a betrayal from King Stefan that turned her pure heart to evil. To revenge, she placed a curse upon the king's newborn daughter, Princess Aurora, which she makes to only be broken by the kiss of true love. Later on, Maleficent developed a maternal love for the princess. That love broke the curse when she kissed Aurora on the forehead. Whether heroes or villains, these are the characters I admire the most. I love to watch the heroes fight the villains and eventually see good win over evil. I also can't help feeling for the villains and their weaknesses; I just love to hate them! These stories are timeless and the characters are definitely larger than life.

Scramped esn't cost very Idn't you like attractive to me. st get very cold. do you read it? al idea of t of the question ose the rmation How the are not ct How would you like to live in a castle, a tree house or even underground? This might not be as unusual as you think. It seems that these days more and more people want to live somewhere special and out of the ordinary, and if they can't buy what they want they are quite 5 prepared to build it from scratch. If an underground home doesn't appeal to you, how about living in the tree tops? Dan Garner, a tree surgeon from Gloucestershire, certainly thinks that this is the way to go up in the world. 35 For John Mew and his wife Josephine their home really is their castle. They have built their own English castle in the Sussex countryside. The building is brand new with all the luxuries you would expect from a house that cost 1 more than £350,000 to build. However, when you first see it from the outside it would be easy to think that you are looking at an ancient monument. The building has a lot of the features of a traditional castle, including a keep, a moat and a drawbridge. "My choice of house is 1 somewhat eccentric and building it was very hard work, but we've got the perfect place to live," Mew says. Although some would say that the building is impractical and may be cold in harsh British winters, he certainly has got a unique and spacious home. "When our family became short of space at home our solution was to build a luxury tree house in the garden. The tree house is built into a spruce tree six metres above the ground. It has one main room, a bedroom and a balcony running around two sides." Garner is so happy 40 with this practical extension to his home that he thinks he can convince more people of the benefits of living in the trees. He wants to set up his own enterprise making more of the deluxe tree dwellings, saying, "Tree houses are airy, secure and comfortable and the only disadvantage 45 is that they might not be suitable for people who suffer from hay fever or a fear of heights!" 2 If you don't look carefully, you might not even see the home that Jonathan Ridley-Jones and Shanon Ridd built at all! That's because the house is a converted underground water tank. The only thing that can be seen from the surface is a door leading into the hillside. "We've 2 never wanted to live in an ordinary house," Shanon says. "Living below ground means that our home is quiet and very cosy none of the usual draughts. It doesn't damage the local surroundings and has very low fuel bills. Some of our friends find it dark and feel shut in 3 when they first visit, but they soon get used to it!" Even people who live in more ordinary settings sometimes can't resist doing something to make them stand out from the crowd. One extreme example of this 50 is Bill Heines' house in Headington, Oxfordshire. Until one morning in 1986, his house looked much like all the others in his street, when suddenly overnight a 7.5 m long fibreglass shark appeared to have crashed through the roof. The shark was a sculpture by local artist John 55 Buckley. At first some people complained that it might be dangerous or that it spoilt the look of the neighbourhood, but engineers checked that the sculpture was safe and the 'Headington shark' has become a well-known and popular landmark. It seems that no matter where you live, 60 you can always do something to make sure your house says something about who you are. 4 5 D It Why Ridle AI B 6 C D 7 Wh Ric A B 4 C D V

Garry: So, Julie, in your opinion, do we do enough to keep our planet healthy? Julie: Actualy, I think that the world is going to end in the next 100 years. Garry: I'm sorry. In 100 years? Oh dear.. thats terrible. Can you explain further? Julie: Its because we've already done too much damage to the planet, and now that darmage is permanent. In my opinion, we're past the point of trying to protect the planet. Now we should try to save ourselves. Garry: Surely there's something we can do. What's the cause of all this damage? Julie: Well, the cause is pollution, and its effect is climate change. It's destroying our planet, and it will continue to do So. Its to the point that we cannot stop it. Its causing the ice caps to melt. (A) Soon they will all disappear. This in turn will cause sea levels to rise. [B) Its predicted that sea levels will rise another 48 centimeters by the year 2050. This will flood many coastal cities. They will be lost forever beneath the water. Flooding isn't the only problem being caused by climate change either. Climate change is causing drought, famine, fires, and other disasters to happen more often all over the world. [C) The bottom line is: we're losing the fight against climate change. Garry: But, Professor, if we stop poluting the environment, can't we prevent these disasters that you are predicting? Julie: Hmm. Well, it couldn't hurt. But, in order for us to make a real difference, we'd have to stop polluting the planet now. Climate change is a problem for all people living now.
