The Last Supper took da Vinci three years to complete. In painting this
masterpiece, da Vinci presented the anger, fear, and doubt felt by the 12 followers
of Jesus. To the left is Judas, drawing back into the shadows in surprise that his
plan is known. In the center of the painting sits Jesus himself. The window behind

him shines like a halo. It gives light to the scene, just as Jesus gives peace to his
followers. The expression on his face is calm as if he has already forgiven the one
who will betray him.

The outline of Jesus forms a triangle. There are also three windows, and his
followers are sitting in four groups of three. The number represents the three sides
of the Christian God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Da Vinci seemed to show
that God's love for humans is stable and will last forever.
Today, The Last Supper can still be viewed in Milan, though its colors have
faded away after such a long time. However, the themes of finding love and hope
in times of trouble are just as strong today as they ever were.
