New Year's Eve is celebrated in every corner of the globe, but there is nowhere
more popular or more famous for its New Year's Eve celebration than New York's

Hundreds of millions of people around the world are at that
moment united as they bid a fond farewell to the year just past, and greet the New Year
with their optimistic hopes and dreams.

The actual square is located in the center of New York City, where
Broadway and 7th Avenue intersect with West 46th Street, just a few blocks south of
Central Park. The whole Times Square district takes in several more blocks from 42nd
Street to 47th Street. 23 The site of the original Times building is actually where
the New Years Eve ball drop is now located. The crossroads of the world is also an
apt description of how culture, art, business, media, and every other part of society all
seem to merge in this uniquely diverse neighborhood.
Surprisingly, Times Square's biggest claim to fame is that it is the world's most
popular tourist destination. Over 300,000 tourists visit the district daily, which equates

more theatres than London's West End, and more restaurants than Paris, maybe it's not
that surprising.

newspaper moved into the area in 1904.
(E) At 11:59 PM on December 31, the eyes of the world are fixed on Times Square's
