which是關係「代名詞」，代表如果要用which他一定有代掉後面的東西，所以如果在使用which的句子裡面你一定找得到地方把先行詞加回去，例如the subject which I hate可以把the subject放回去變成I hate the subject。
可是這裡的pole沒有辦法放回去，他實際原本上是 land masses appear larger than they really are around the pole，把around the pole 一起放到前面變成around which，再從around which變成關副where
