wet, and poor in nutrients. To live and grow, these plants eat insects like birds or animals do.
Carnivorous plants have a lot of different ways to hunt insects. For example, they may have beautiful
colors or a strong smell. An insect that smells the carnivorous plant might think there is food in it. After it
flies to the plant to eat, it will be too late! The insect will be stuck to the leaves or will slip into the pitcher
when it tries to fly away. The plant will then use enzymes to turn the small insect into a delicious meal.
Although they eat insects, they still make energy from sunlight and water like other plants.
Next time you smell or see a beautiful flower, don't touch it right away. It might be dangerous!
