下線部の文は接続詞がないのに2つの文があるのですがなぜこのようなことが可能なのでしょうか...？教えて頂きたいです。

等位接続詞の場合、３つ以上を並置する場合は
A, B, and C
A, B, C, and D
みたいに最後に1つだけ接続詞をおくからじゃないでしょうか。

ダッシュで括られたfor this was 〜のところは省きますが
A Her skin had acquired a wonderful translucent quality
B the mouth was soft
and
C the eyes seemed larger, darker, than before

でもCのlarger, darkerのように接続詞ではなくてカンマになっている場合もありますね。
今回の場合larger and darker than beforeとすると、その前にもandがありますから、文構造が余計わかりにくくなるという配慮があるものと思います。
ですが、配慮とか関係なく、
筆者のクセが出ているような接続詞の使い方もあります。
