spinの1番の元々の意味は「回転」なんですけど
例えば
look at「〜を見る」をlookを名詞扱いにして、
take a look atとかhave a look at
というように
動詞のspin 「回る・回す」をspinを名詞扱いすると
put (a) spin ってputを使って言うんですよ。

だから「回転」以外の他の意味でspinを使うときも
putっていう動詞を結構使う気がします。
