なのですが、英文の最後の that seemed like a sort of softball の表現が分かりません。
分かりそうな方よろしくお願いします。

that seemed like a sort of softball はquestionがどんなものだったかを詳しく説明しているthat節ですね。
seemed like… 〜のように見える・思える
a sort of… いわば、〜みたいな、どちらかといえば
softball… 簡単な、難しくない
直訳「どちらかといえば簡単と思われる」
お手持ちの訳ではそれを「簡単な」だけ出しているみたいですね。
