Subject-verb inversion: S V ⟶ V S

It is used to make the style of the story more surprising, dramatic or poetic.

It is mostly used for verbs of movement, but not always. The pattern is
<subject> <verb + preposition> ⟶ <preposition> <verb> <subject>
or
<subject> <verb> <preposition + noun> ⟶ <preposition + noun> <verb> <subject>

Also for situations:
A house stood upon the hill. ⟶ Upon the hill stood a house.
A beautiful tree bloomed in the garden. ⟶ In the garden bloomed a beautiful tree.

There exist other types of inversion, like <S> <V> <O> ⟶ <S> <O> <V>

This is only done in novels or poetry. Don't do this in your Eiken essay.
