写真の青線の文の和訳が「これを行うには彼らは非常に良い立場にいます」だったのですが、先頭のThis is somethingがどういう役割をしてるのか分かりません。They are in〜で文を始めても同じような意味になると思うのですが、、。
This is somethingが何のためについているのか(何を表しているのか)どなたか教えてください。

訳も「これを行うには」となってます。

直前に話した内容を受けて話を進めるために、意図してかしてないかわかりませんけどthis って言っちゃって、
それからis something that でつないでから、言いたい表現に持っていってる感じがします。
