want to の場合、to の後には動詞がきます(～したいみたいな)
wantだけの場合、名詞がきます(～が欲しいみたいな)
want 〇〇 to の場合、〇〇にはhimやherがきます(〇〇に～してほしいみたいな)

Went means go
‘Go to’ is using to explain what the place you would like to getting in.
For example: I went to the school.
Go is a action, you don’t explain the place, or the others are already known.
For example: He went out, and wouldn’t come back.
