toを使うもの ⇒ give・send・tell・show・teach・lend など

forを使うもの ⇒ buy・make・cook など

間違いになります

Lucy gave me beautiful flowers.
→ Lucy gave beautiful flowers to me.
❌ Lucy gave beautiful flowers for me

"for" can be used to indicate the person who gets the gift "indirectly":

Lucy gave me beautiful flowers for my wife.
→ Lucy gave beautiful flowers to me for my wife.
→ Lucy gave beautiful flowers (to me) for my wife.
→ Lucy gave beautiful flowers for my wife.
This means: Lucy gave me flowers, and I will give the flowers to my wife.

I gave Tom some old toys for his children.
→ I gave some old toys to Tom for his children.

"for" can be used to indicate the purpose:
I gave him some eggs for breakfast.
→ I gave some eggs to him for breakfast.
