"some of" is only used for nouns in specific form [the, that, those, ...].
✅ Some of the advice was very good.
✅ Some of the rice was wasted.
✅ I gave some of that rice to my friend.
✅ Some of those cars were broken.
✅ Some of the students are very tired.
✅ He talked to some of the students.
✅ Some of us/you/them are very tired.
As you can see, "some of" implies a fixed (specific) group of things, of which some are selected.

For non-specific nouns, just use "some" :
✅ Let me give you some advice
✅ Some rice was wasted.
✅ Some students were very tired.
✅ Some cars were broken.
✅ He talked to some students.

❌ some of advice
❌ some of students
❌ some the advice
❌ some the students
❌ some us

Note that this rule is the same for countable [可算 = car, student...) and uncountable [不可算 = advice, water, rice,...] nouns!
