[No other＋名詞・単数] が主語の場合の比較表現は、そのままでもotherを省略しても、どちらでも主語としてＯＫです。
例：No (other) natural stone is as hard as diamond. ダイヤモンドほど硬い天然石は他にありません。
しかし、この名詞・単数がthingの場合は、No other thing ではなく Nothing を主語として使います。

ぼりりんさん、現在使っている英文法参考書の『比較』の中にある「最上級の内容を表す原級・比較級」を、ご自分で確認して下さい。
Nothing を主語にした例文が、必ず載っています。
