That shouldn’t really be the case when we have a machine as powerful as the brain at our disposal. の as ~ as について質問があります。

as ~ as は「〜と同じくらい」という意味だと思って「脳と同じくらい強力な機械」と訳したのですが、これだと脳と機械が別の物を指しているようで文意と合わないと感じました。

解説を見てみると「脳ほどの高性能な機械」とあり、the brain = a very powerful machine と書いてありました。

手元の文法解説書ではこのような文章は見つけられませんでした。これは as ~ as のどのような用法でしょうか。
