work in と表現できる。 the room を指す which[that] は, 節内の前置詞 in の目的語 (目
的格の関係代名詞) なので省略できる。 したがって, ② work を work in と訂正する。

PLUS the room which [that] they work in は (1) which [that] が省略されたthe room
they work in. (2) 「前置詞+関係代名詞」 (417) をワンセットで節の頭に置いた
the room in which they work, (3) 関係副詞 where (→420) を用いた the room
where they work と言い換えることができる。
