Newscaster: Although e-sports is now very popular, few
Japanese high schools have introduced e-sports as a
club activity. Can you think of a reason, Mr. Yoneda?
Commentator (Mr. Yoneda): Well, some teachers and
parents ask me if e-sports is a real sport. I'm afraid
they still see e-sports as a waste of time. E-sports.
players need physical and mental skills, such as quick
responses, concentration, and strategies, just like other
athletes. In fact, the U.S. government now recognizes
e-sports players as professional athletes. The
government lets them enter the U.S. and play like other
professional athletes by giving them a special visa.
Newscaster: What, then, are some of the advantages of
introducing e-sports in high school?
Commentator: First, students can enjoy e-sports regardless
of their physical strength. Second, they can learn the
value of teamwork. Third, they can communicate and
make friends with various people online outside of
school not only in Japan but also in other countries.
