普通はwasですよ。
audienceはpeopleやfamilyなどと同じ集合名詞です。
イギリス英語では、単数、複数どちらも用いることがありますが、
普通は、複数の概念が強調されていない限り、単数として扱います。

The audience at a play, concert, film, or public meeting [is] the group of people watching or listening to it.
→ is で受けている（単数扱い）
The audience for a television or radio program [consists] of all the people who watch or listen to it.
→consists と三単現のsがついている（単数扱い）
