2行目のonlyなのですがなぜ後ろから修飾しているのでしょうか？some monthsの前に置いては行けないのですか？onlyを挿入する位置のルールを理解出来ていないので教えて頂きたいです。

おそらくこのonlyは、別にsome months laterを後ろから修飾してるわけではないと思います。

助動詞やbe動詞の後ろ、一般動詞の前
という副詞にありがちな語順
oftenとからalwaysとかと同じ語順なのではないでしょうか
副詞のonlyで、ここでは動詞raised を修飾しているんじゃないかなぁ…おそらく
