上の文の時にits history goes となってますが、これは"そのスポーツの歴史は"という所有格になっているのでwhichにすると歴史ではなくスポーツが7世紀もさかのぼったということになってしまうので、"スポーツの"歴史がさかのぼるという所有格にするためにwhoseにしているんだと思います。
