この問題で、1と4の質問でtodayをthe dayとかyesterdayをthe day beforeに言い換えてるのは謎ですか？そのままはダメなのですか？

today、yesterday、は今質問してる時から考えての自制になります。

①の場合ですと、「リリーは私にその日寒かったと言った」ですから、「今」ではなく、リリーが私に言った日から考えて「その日」な訳です。

要するに、いつから考えて昔かがポイントとなります。
現在から考えて今日でしたらtodayでいいわけですが、
過去時点で考えて今日でしたら、それは本当の今日ではないわけです。ですからthe dayと表します。
