試験に先だって、ネズミを以下のように、9-12週間飼育する。
かごのなかに一匹だけの群と、かごのなかに5匹入れた群に分ける。
飼育条件は、標準的な照明下(7:00-19:00まで、照明をつける)、常温。餌と水は自由に摂れるとする。
