三、篇章結構 New Year's Eve is celebrated in every corner of the globe, but there is nowhere more popular or more famous for its New Year's Eve celebration than New York's 21 Times Square. Hundreds of millions of people around the world are at that moment united as they bid a fond farewell to the year just past, and greet the New Year with their optimistic hopes and dreams. 22 The actual square is located in the center of New York City, where Broadway and 7th Avenue intersect with West 46th Street, just a few blocks south of Central Park. The whole Times Square district takes in several more blocks from 42nd Street to 47th Street. 23 The site of the original Times building is actually where the New Years Eve ball drop is now located. The crossroads of the world is also an apt description of how culture, art, business, media, and every other part of society all seem to merge in this uniquely diverse neighborhood. Surprisingly, Times Square's biggest claim to fame is that it is the world's most popular tourist destination. Over 300,000 tourists visit the district daily, which equates With more neon billboards than Las Vegas, to 39 million people annually. 24 more theatres than London's West End, and more restaurants than Paris, maybe it's not that surprising. (A) This total is far more than the Eiffel Tower in Paris or The Great Wall of China. (B) Times Square is sometimes called the crossroads of the world and with good reason. There is no place on the planet more electrifying than Times Square on New Year's Eve. 令人兴膏的. The district was named Times Square when the headquarters of The New York Times newspaper moved into the area in 1904. Experiment 7 Experiment 7 The partition of Organic acid between Water and Organic solvent Objectives Understand the partition of a solute between two immiscible solvents. Introduction A chemical analysis that is performed primarily with the aid of volumetric glassware (e.g., pipets, burets, volumetric flasks) is called a volumetric analysis. For a volumetric analysis procedure, a known quantity or a carefully measured amount of one substance reacts with a to-be-determined amount of another substance with the reaction occurring in aqueous solution. The volumes of all solutions are carefully measured with volumetric glassware. The known amount of the substance for an analysis is generally measured and available in two ways: 1. As a primary standard: An accurate mass (and thus, moles) of a solid substance is measured on a balance, dissolved in water, and then reacted with the substance being analyzed. 2. As a standard solution: A measured number of moles of substance is present in a measured volume of solution - a solution of known concentration, generally expressed as the molar concentration (or molarity) of the substance. A measured volume of the standard solution then reacts with the substance being analyzed. The reaction of the known substance with the substance to be analyzed, occurring in aqueous solution, is generally conducted by a titration procedure. The titration procedure required a buret to dispense a liquid, called the titrant, into a flask containing the analyte. A reaction is complete when stoichiometric amounts of the reacting substances are combined. In a titration this is the stoichiometric point. In this experiment the stoichiometric point for the acid-base titration is detected using a phenolphthalein indicator. Phenolphthalein is colorless in an acidic solution but pink in a basic solution. The point in the titration at which the phenolphthalein changes color is called the endpoint of the indicator. Indicators are selected so that the stoichiometric point in the titration coincides (at approximately the same pH) with the endpoint of the indicator.
