何故ですか?

Akikoの、電子メールの方が便利ではという提案に対して、(電子メールよりも)手書きの方が(より)嬉しいでしょう、と答えてるので比較級を使うということだと思います。
()の内容は書かれてませんが、I know that. But〜とあるのでそう読みとるのが自然だと思います。
