Narrative Text is a type of text that tells a story or
a series of events in a chronological order.

Social Function: To entertain, amuse, or provide
a moral lesson to the readers.

A good narrative isn't just a flat story. It follow a
specific flow:
1. Orientation: The introduction, Who was involved?
Where and when did it happen? (Setting the
scene).
2. Complication: The "problem" arises. This is the
heart of the story where the main character
faces obstacles.
3. Climax: The peak of the conflict. The most
exciting or intence part.
4. Resolution: How the problem is solved (for
better or for worse).
S. Coda / Re-orientation (optonal): The moral of
the story or a final reflection on the events.
Language Features
To write a compelling narrative, pay attention
to these linguistic elements:

Past Tense Since it happened in the past
(eg. She lived, They went).
• Action Verbs: Verbs that show movement
(e.g., climbed, shouted, ran).

Time Connectives: To keep the sequence clear
(e.g., Suddenly, Then, Meanwhile, Finally)
Direct
Indirect Speech: To make the characters
feel alive (e.g., "I'm tired," She whispered).
Adjectives & Adverbs: To build imagery and
atmosphere.

THE WEIGHT OF A SECRET
ORIENTATION
In a secluded village tucked away in
the misty mountains of Scotland, there
lived an old clockmaker named Elias. He
was known for making clocks that never
lost a second, but he was also known
for his silence.
COMPLICATION
IMPLICATI
One evening, a young traveler arrived
at his shop, carrying a golden pocket
watch that had stopped exactly at midnigh
The traveler claimed the watch held the
heartbeat of a forgotten King. Elias, drive
by a curiosty he hadn't felt in years, opened
the watch. Instead of gears, he found a tiny
glowing ember. As soon as the air hit it, the
ember began to dim.
CLIMAX
The traveler's face distorted. "If that light
goes out, the memory of my Kingdom
vanishes forever!" he bellowed. Elias
realized the traveler wasn't a man, but a
ghost seeking immortality-Elias had to
choose: let the ember die, and free the ghost
from his earthly tether, or fix the watch
and trap the soul inside a machine foreve
RESOLUTION
RESOLUTION
With a steady hand. Elias bew gently on
the ember until it flickered out. The travele
let out a sigh of relief as his form dissolved
into the mist. The watch was now just empty
gold.
CODA
Elias learned that some things are not
meant to be kept ticking; some things are
meant to end so that something new can begin
