far と by far の使い方の違いです。
【far】
比較級文に使う(far ~er, far more ~er)
例) Your exam score is far better than mine.
（君の試験の点数は私のよりずっと良い）
Your painting is fare more beautiful than mine.
(君の絵画は私のよりずっと美しい）
【by far】
最上級文に使う(by far + the + ~est)
Ken is by far the brightest student in our class.
(ケンは私たちのクラスの中で抜群に聡明だ)
以下の条件付きで比較級文にも使える。
▪theが付く比較と使う場合
▪比較級の後ろに置かれた場合
▪by far の前後にカンマを付ける場合
▪by farをtheが付く比較級と使う
例) Of the two children, Ken is by far the brighter.
（あの子供二人の内、ケンのほうがはるかに聡明だ）
▪by farが比較級の後ろに置かれる
例) Your exam score is better than mine by far.
