e. 88.69; she qualified. 29.The table below is a calculation of the grade breakdown of 500 students who are taking introductory psychology at a university. The grades are on a 100-point scale, and the table divides the students into percentiles. Which of these statements is NOT correct? Percentile Grade 10 43 20 55 30 68 40 72 50 75 60 81 70 90 a. This distribution is skewed left. b. The mean grade for the 500 students is greater than the median grade. 80 92 c. There are no high outliers among these students. d. More students are doing well in the class than are doing poorly in the class. e. All of these statements are correct. 30. In a scatternlot 90 95 99 100
29. From Chapter 5 The correct answer is (b). This distribution is skewed left. Notice that the spread between the top three percentiles is much smaller than the spread between the bottom three percentiles. In a skewed-right distribution, the mean is much smaller than the median, making (b) the correct answer. In a skewed-left distribution, there the top half of the data is very close together, which means that even a student with a perfect grade of 100 will not be an outlier. And this skewness tells us that more students are doing well and a smaller percentage are doing poorly. Over 60% have scores over 72 while only 30% have low scores.
