在這裡，then = at the time = 那時
then可用來泛指過去或未來的某個雙方都知道在指什麼的時間點

指過去的「那時」：
Life was harder then because neither of us had a job.
Things were very different back then.

指未來的「那時」：

Call me again next week. We should have a decision by then.
