比較級(more)を使うということは、
書いた人が何かと比べてるから使ってあるのが原則です。

この一文だけだと何と比べてるかはっきりとは言い切れませんが、
おそらくは、"今日の世界では" ということから、
次のように昔(過去)と比べているからかと思います。

To get a good job in today's world,
it is increasingly important to have more education (than in the past).

「昔よりも、"もっと多くの"」ということを言いたいからかなぁと思われます。
